OUR PHILOSOPHY

We advocate teaching basketball through tactical (Team) and technical (Individual Skill) principles, focusing on reemerging patterns for efficient play. Our approach, termed Search - Decide - Execute, simulates game scenarios to enhance anticipation and decision-making. Jeff instills fundamental principles and fosters instinctual play in practice. Our goal is to equip players with problem-solving skills, enabling faster reactions than the defense and synchronizing team dynamics

Schmidt Performance champions Evidence-Based training for targeted skill development and performance optimization in basketball. Grounded in scientific research, this method utilizes ecological dynamics and motor learning principles to design evidence-backed training programs. Customized to individual needs, it empowers players to excel, enhancing their basketball IQ and contributing to team success.

Players immersed in evidence-based training are intrinsically motivated by realistic game scenarios, fostering autonomy and decision-making. By emphasizing creativity and problem-solving, this approach cultivates a desire for continuous improvement, aligning with players' natural drive for mastery and personal growth on the court.

FOUNDER & BASKETBALL TEACHER

Jeff is currently a K-12 educator and enjoys working with students in the classroom as he has done in California and Colorado for the past 20+ years. Jeff has been mentored by some of the best coaches in the world. In that time, Jeff coached basketball at the high school and college levels. He has spent nine years as a head coach and was named “Coach of the Year” three separate times for three separate schools while in Fresno. In addition to his sideline work in the regular season, Jeff has worked numerous camps across the country including the Michael Jordan Flight School and the Snow Valley Basketball School which has recently been rated by Sports Illustrated as the best teaching basketball camp in the country. Jeff is also a licensed Gold Coach member of USA Basketball. Schmidt Performance Basketball Training and Development was founded in 2019 as a way to provide student-athletes with a unique, positive experience that serves and leads young people to be the best versions of themselves both on and off the court.
